The solution was originally developed in Denmark by Dammgard. The company was merged with Navision Software A/S. In 2002 Microsoft acquired the combined entity and merged its products in its own line of products. The very first release of Axapta was in 1998. This is a very expandable solution and come with its own Integrated Development Environment. The IDE is called MorphX and it comes with a specialized debugger and a number of other programming related tools.

Moreover the IDE is located in the main user interface of the solution. This means that developers do not need any special front end to write code for the solution. Instead the company can centrally roll out the solution and developers would be able to do their work in the same interface that the users use. Overall administration of the solution therefore becomes a very simple and absolutely painless process. This is way better than mySAP and a number of other ERP solutions.

This is a modular solution so the organizations can easily add and remove functionality to the solution. There are a number of components which for the core of Axapta. These include the General ledger functionality like Ledger, sales tax related functionality as well as features related to the currency and fixed assets. The core also includes the Customer Relationship management module. It comes with bank management, inventory management, human resources and a number of other tools.

A number features have also been added to the core in the latest version AX 2009. These include shop floor control module, SMA service orders, payroll management, Cost Accounting Plus, balanced Scorecards etc. They are available on a per license basis in the previous version as well. The components which do not form the core include Enterprise Portal which is based on Sharepoint Services. Then there are the Application Integration Framework and integration with the reporting services in Microsoft SQL.

The architecture of this solution is very simple and it comprises of four main parts. There is the client tool, a file server, a database server and an Application Object server. Implementations of this solution have taken place all over the world and have generated great value. Axapta ERP is a great tool for managers to handle staffing and consulting apart from the general administration of organization and resources.
